Episode 67: nSquared- Imagining a Connected Smart Campus

Students are no longer interested in standing in lines at the parking office to get their tags, waiting in queues to change their majors, or sitting in waiting rooms to answer their questions. Students are now used to getting instant answers to their inquiries and receive personalized, on-demand support at their fingertips from the service providers they interact with. They expect the same from their campus as they reenter their institution this Fall. Is your campus ready to meet the need for personalized, on-demand, contactless student services?

Whether they are buying a coffee or filling up gas - students, faculty and staff have been using touchless payments over the past 18 months. When they return to campus, they expect to pay for their meal, buy a parking pass, and even pay their tuition at the bursar’s office using contactless methods. Is your campus ready to provide innovative campus solutions to students?

Panel Discussion: Imagining a Connected Smart Campus

One of the best-known chatbots deployed by universities is IBM Watson. IBM Watson uses a technology referred to as Watson Conversation Service. Universities can use it for expanding student responses, downloading and providing documents, and answering subject-specific questions.

An AI chatbot can provide immediate answers to library requested as well as signing up for new classes or getting students to the admission department in the blink of an eye, making self-serving more streamlined and appealing to impatient students.

What’s the role and potential adoption of the latest technologies like AI, QR Codes, Mobile KeyChains, Chatbots, Smartbots, Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies, etc., on the campuses of the future? Each of you is specifically selected to talk about these trends.

Our panelist for this discussion included

Rick Torres, National Student Clearinghouse

John Braswell, ACI Worldwide

Stacey Marshall, Mitel

Niraj Kaji, Akademos

Gabrielle Kristofich, Beyond Academics

Tim Chester, The University of Georgia
